Front Of Church

The main holiday of this month is the Feast of Saint Michael and All Angels, which is celebrated on November 21st. This is a holiday in honor of the revered heavenly powers, angels and archangels, headed by the Archangel Michael.

Two of the many saints commemorated in November are St. John Chrysostom (Nov. 13/26) and the Apostle and Evangelist Matthew (Nov. 16/29).  St. John is called “Chrysostom”—Greek for “Golden-Mouthed”—for his inspirational and prolific preaching, which touched so many during his lifetime and continues to inspire Orthodox Christians today.  Born around 347, St. John used his commentaries to help Christians better understand Holy Scripture. In the troparion for the day, we sing, “Grace shining forth from your mouth like a beacon has illumined the inhabited earth,” and in the kontakion, “We praise you, as is meet, for you are a guide, making divine things clear.”
