September marks the beginning of the church year. This month we have the Feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos and the Elevation of the Cross. The Nativity of the Theotokos is the Feast Day of our church Sisterhood, which was established early in our parish’s history and continues to support our community by beautifying our church sanctuary, planting gardens in the churchyard, cooking meals, and providing general upkeep around the church.

The Elevation of the Cross commemorates the finding of Christ’s cross by St. Helen in the fourth century and its elevation in Jerusalem in the seventh century. In venerating the cross, we rededicate ourselves to our Lord Jesus Christ.

The church council continues to monitor our parish finances and asks for your continued financial support. Thank you to those who have made donations the past several months. We encourage everyone to consider setting up recurring monthly donations through our website or by having your bank issue monthly checks directly to church. Setting up a recurring donation is a quick, secure, and convenient method that helps ensure our parish will continue to serve you. Even a modest monthly gift helps us plan better, cover ongoing costs more reliably, and reduce the need for urgent appeals.

We hope to see you in church for these special days in September:

• August 31 Blessing for the beginning of the School Year immediately following Divine Liturgy
• September 21 Nativity of Theotokos. Vespers on Saturday at 4 pm and Liturgy on Sunday at 10 am followed by a festive lunch in honor of our church sisterhood
• September 27 Elevation of the Cross. Vespers on Friday at 6 pm and Liturgy on Saturday at 10 am.
