Front Of Church

Christ is Risen! Truly He is Risen! We use the Paschal greeting during these weeks after Pascha, reminding us of the power and beauty of our faith in Jesus Christ.  On Ascension Day, May 21, we sing, “Thou didst ascend in glory, O Christ our God, granting joy to Thy disciples by the promise of the Holy Spirit.”  We look forward to seeing you every Saturday at 4 pm for vigil, every Sunday at 9:30 am for confession and 10 am for Liturgy, and for these special days:

Ascension of our Lord, May 21

  • Vigil on Wednesday at 6:00 pm
  • Liturgy on Thursday at 10:00 am (confession at 9:30)

On the Day of the Ascension—the fortieth day after His Resurrection—the Lord gathered the Apostles and led them “out of the city as far as Bethany,” a village situated on the Mount of Olives. There, He blessed them and ascended into Heavenly Glory in His transfigured human Body—the very Body that had suffered and risen. Christ “ascended far above the heavens,” and as the God-Man, He is present everywhere—including within every Christian—for the Body and Blood of the Redeemer are now accessible to believers in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

St. Nicholas, May 22

  • Liturgy on Friday at 10:00 am (confession at 9:30)

Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra and Wonderworker, lived in the third century; he endured persecution and provided immense assistance to all those in need. The tradition of Christmas gift-giving dates to the earliest accounts of his life, which recount how Saint Nicholas secretly provided dowries for the three daughters of a wealthy man who had fallen into ruin. According to legend, a pouch of gold tossed through a window by Saint Nicholas landed inside a stocking that had been left to dry by the fire. From this event arose the custom of hanging stockings to receive Christmas gifts. Saint Nicholas is the patron saint of children, travelers, prisoners, orphans, and all those facing difficult life circumstances; thus, everyone has a reason to turn to him in prayer—and, with faith, to receive his aid.

Pentecost, May 31

  • Pentecostal Memorial Saturday, 10 am Divine Liturgy, 11 am Panikhida.
  • Vigil on Saturday, 4:00 pm
  • Liturgy on Sunday at 10:00 am (confession at 9:30) followed by Procession and Parish luncheon

The Feast of Pentecost is dedicated to the Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and the birth of the Church of Christ, through which we receive God’s help and salvation in eternity. On the eve—Saturday—a commemoration of all the departed is observed. This observance was established because the Descent of the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost completed the salvation of humanity, and the departed, too, share in this salvation. Therefore, while praying for the quickening of all the living by the Holy Spirit, Christians also ask that, for the departed, the grace of the Holy Spirit—the Comforter—may serve as a source of blessedness in eternal life.
