During Great Lent the Church helps us prepare for Pascha—the day of Christ’s Resurrection, assuring us in our future resurrection for eternal and joyful life. The Church calls us to attend special Lenten services, reminding us of the necessity during these seven weeks to fast, pray, confess our sins, and most importantly receive the sacrament of Holy Communion, uniting us with God. Great Lent is also the time for Holy Unction, a Church Sacrament given for healing (both physical and spiritual) and for the forgiveness of sins forgotten or unconscious. This special service will take place twice during Great Lent so that everyone has the opportunity to receive this sacrament.
