September is the start of the church year, and we have two holy days with special services. On September 21 we celebrate the Nativity of the Theotokos. The Righteous Joachim and Anna promised to dedicate their daughter to the service of God. On this joyful day we celebrate the Mother of the Savior of our world, our Lord Jesus Christ. Join us for Vigil on September 20 at 6 pm and for Divine Liturgy on September 21 at 10 am (confession at 9:30).
We celebrate the Exaltation of the Cross on September 27. This day commemorates when in the year 326 Saint Helen found the cross upon which Jesus Christ was crucified, which had been buried under a pagan temple. The Empress Helen was sent by her son Emperor Constantine to Jerusalem where she visited the holy places and established many churches in the Holy Land. On this day we sing, “O Lord, save Your people and bless Your inheritance.” Come for Vigil on September 26 at 4 pm and for Divine Liturgy on September 27 at 10 am (confession at 9:30).
